San Francisco airport remembers "summer of love"
SFO Museum has teamed up with photographer Elaine Mayes to present twelve images from her historic documentation of the Monterey international pop music festival held from 16 to 18 June 1967.
The three-day event played a significant role in launching the "summer of love" in San Francisco, and provided a stage for the first large-scale appearances in the USA for The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding, all of whom are featured in the exhibition.
Running near gate 76 in terminal 3, boarding area F until 10 August, the exhibition is part of the regional celebration of the 50th anniversary of San Francisco’s summer of love. (ah)
