Delta and Northwest: A new giant of the skies

The amalgamation of the two US airlines Delta and Northwest is just the beginning of a new wave of mergers in the aviation industry. It is still too early to know what effects this will have on the global supply of freight capacities and rates. We can safely say, however, that in future freight forwarders will be able to bank on receiving services for all Delta/Northwest, Air France/KLM routes from one counter.

UIRR stance on megatrucks, gigaliners and Eurocombis: Latest status on road use debate

There is no doubt that allowing 25.25 m tractor and trailer combinations on Europe’s roads would have an enormous impact. Opinions diverge on the question of what the precise pros and cons would be. Road hauliers hope for higher productivity of truck services, while railway and multimodal operators fear them. The EU Commission now wants to comprehensively clarify the issue.
