Baltic Air to Abu Dhabi, Virgin Australia opts out

The Latvian airline Air Baltic is to launch a direct service between Riga and Abu Dhabi on 29 October 2017. Air Baltic will operate the link four times per week with a Bombardier CS300 aircraft. Etihad Airways will be its codeshare partner on the route.

The cooperation with Etihad Airways will offer connections for shipping freight from the Baltic region to the UAE capital and destinations in Australia, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and vice versa.

Virgin Australia has announced that it is cancelling its planned route from Perth (Australia) to Abu Dhabi. Virgin uses its partnership with Etihad to offer service to Europe, connecting to Etihad’s extensive network via Abu Dhabi. Virgin Australia will now rely on codesharing to Etihad's hub in Abu Dhabi, where the Iata World Cargo Symposium starts today (14 March 2017).   (ah)
