Des Moines to lose lots of jobs to Chicago Rockford
UPS is to move some air-shipping operations from Des Moines airport (DSM) to Chicago Rockford airport (RFD), bringing 240 jobs to the company's second-largest air-sorting facility in the US. The move, which is set for mid-July, will add 13 UPS flights per week to the Rockford airport. Further to local media, Nathan Bryant, president and CEO of the Rockford Are Economic Development Council, said the announcement comes at a good time for the Rock River Valley.
UPS still will operate one nightly flight in Des Moines for next-day package delivery, UPS spokesman Jim Mayer said, and the employees affected by the change are "will have the opportunity to move to different positions". (ah)
