Facelift for ro-mo terminal in Freiburg
After a two year construction phase, the Swiss rolling motorway operator Ralphin has reopened its refurbished loading terminal in Freiburg (Germany). The company invested CHF 15 million in a new operations building at the station and an around 600 m long single lane approach road.
Trucks can now drive to the terminal from the north and access trains via the loading ramp. The change in direction has resulted in a more efficient loading procedure, as trains do not need to turn round afterwards.
The rolling motorway shifts some 100,000 HGVs per year from the transalpine road network to the railway. (ben)
