From Russia with love: 225 rail cars for Cuba
The Russian wagon manufacturer RM Rail has landed a new contract to supply rolling stock to Cuba. Under the terms of the deal, RM Rail will produce 225 rail cars, including 50 sugar hoppers, 70 60-foot container flat cars and 105 box cars, and deliver them to the island nation in Q3/2017.
The wagons have been developed by RM Rail engineering designers and are adapted to Cuba’s narrow 1,435 mm track gauge. The rail cars will be manufactured in Mordovia, in Russia’ eastern European region.
A rail/sea intermodal scheme will be used to deliver the finished units. The rail cars’ final assembly will be completed by RM Rail specialists in Cuba. (ben)
