Hamburg Süd, HMM and 2M - strategic pact in 2017
2017 will be a transitional period for some carriers. When presenting their main transpacific and Europe-Asia services for the current year, the 2M alliance, comprised of Maersk and MSC, said that it is entering into a strategic alliance with Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Hamburg Süd. However, the latter two shipping lines’ services will be outside the scope of the 2M alliance.
Maersk has signed an agreement with Dr Oetker to acquire Hamburg Süd by the end of 2017, and in addition, the Danish line and MSC also closed a deal with HMM in December 2016.
The partners have agreed on the number of slot purchases, and while HMM and Hamburg Süd will carry cargo on the network, they will not be an integral and official part of the 2M alliance. (kd)
