Maersk, MSC and CMA to establish alliance
The world's largest container carriers Maersk Line, MSC and CMA CGM have agreed to establish a long-term operational alliance in east–west trades, called the P3 Network. The network is set to operate 29 loops and deploy 255 vessels with a total capacity of 2.6 million teu in the Asia-Europe, transpacific and transatlantic trades. Maersk will contribute 42% of the capacity, MSC 34% and CMA CGM 24%. While P3 vessels will be operated independently by a joint vessel-operating centre, the three lines will continue with their independent sales, marketing and customer service activities. The lines plan to start operations in Q2/2014, subject to approval from the authorities concerned as well as lines agreeing on definite contracts.
