Panel for national freight and supply chain inquiry
The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) welcomes the appointment of a national panel of industry experts to assist with the development of a national freight and supply chain strategy. The panel, announced by infrastructure and transport minister, Darren Chester, consists of Marika Calfas, CEO, NSW Ports; Maurice James, MD, Qube Holdings and Nicole Lockwood, chair of Western Australia’s freight and logistics council.
The experts will compile a draft report for industry and government comment by December 2017, with a final report to be presented to the government by March 2018.
Freight and logistics plays an important role in Australia. The industry represents approximately 8.6% of Australia’s GDP and employs 1.2 million Australians. ALC research shows that a 1% increase in supply chain efficiency will deliver an AUD 2 billion benefit to the national economy. (ah)
