Seoul records highest ever monthly growth rate
The volume of international airfreight handled at Incheon airport which serves the South Korean capital Seoul, came to 208,000 t in February 2017. The 16.9% year-on-year increase is the largest ever year-on-year monthly performance.
Thought to be attributable to the gradual recovery of the country's exports (106,609 t), the volume of freight bound for the Americas (+10.5%), Europe (+15%) and Southeast Asia (+22.1%) recorded a noticeable y-o-y increase.
Airfreight bound for Japan, which recorded a poor performance in 2016, also turned around to record robust growth (+18.8%), taking the total to 22,872 t. China remained the largest single country market for the airport (37,703 t). (ah)
