Sunny skies for Bordeaux airport in 2016
2016 proved to be a favourable year for Bordeaux-Merignac airport (France), as 15 new scheduled services were launched and two new companies settled there.
Some 24,300 t of cargo flowed through the airport in 2016, 1.1% more than in 2015. Substantial growth was registered in both the traditional airfreight (+ 11.4%) and express cargo sectors, but the volume of trucked freight sank by 9.7%. Aircraft movements declined as well (- 5.3%), due to the operation of large-capacity aircraft.
In addition, the airport commissioned a new phytosanitary inspection post for controlling plant and animal product imports last year.
Bordeaux airport remained important for the region’s importers and exporters, given that it offered links to as many as 101 destinations in the summer peak season.(ah)
