Tokyo Narita: leaving and returning in a big way
Today (9 January 2017) marks the end of the daily Lufthansa service between Frankfurt and Tokyo Narita (NRT). Previously scheduled as a seasonal suspension until 25 March, the airline decided to terminate the link permanently, but will continue its service ex Munich, and the Frankfurt - Tokyo Haneda (HND) connection.
Emirates, in the meantime, has announced that it will resume its flagship A380 service between Dubai and Narita from 26 March.
Lufthansa Cargo and Emirates Skycargo, the carrier's freight divisions, also serve the more distant airport which is, in cargo terms, the bigger of the Japanese capital's two stations. In 2015, NRT handled 2.036 million t of freight, while HND totalled 1.087 million t. (ah)
