Testing robots at Munich airport
Researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, along with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Kravag Versicherung and the industrial partners at Munich airport (Cargogate, CHI, Sovereign Speed and DB Schenker), have presented the first concrete results of the ‘digital test area air cargo’ (DTAC) research project, which is funded with around EUR 7 million.
Key roles will be played by robots working in different ways, such as the ‘robot dog’ Spot from US manufacturer Boston Dynamics, which is equipped with a scanner and 4K camera, an autonomously operating forklift truck for intermediate transport to the automatically operating high-bay warehouse and an omnidirectional, highly dynamic robot developed by Fraunhofer IML for transporting Euro pallets to the neighbouring warehouse.
