| Greek transport industry strike | 29. Juli 2010 |
|
The Greek transport industry, including its oil haulage segment, has gone on strike. The German freight forwarders' association has warned operators that loading or discharging containers in Greek ports and transporting freight to the Greek islands will be nigh on impossible. Petrol stations will are expected to run out of fuel soon and the body has predicted that the Greek motorways will be blocked by truck drivers. The strike focuses on the Greek government's plans to restrict the pan-EU freedom to found enterprises in the transportation sector. Over and above this, Greek transport firms have to pay an enormous sum to receive authorisation. It is not yet known how long the strike is expected to go on for, though the German freight forwarders' association expects it to go on for days at least. (ben) |
