Jan 22, 2026 at 9:26 AMCathay Cargo closed the year 2025 with a positive balance, transporting over 1.6 million tons of cargo. This represents an increase of more than 9% compared to the previous year. Available freight ton kilometers rose by more than 8%, highlighting the company’s capacity expansion and Hong Kong’s role as a significant air freight hub in Asia.
Cargo Volume in December 2025
In December 2025, Cathay Cargo transported approximately 152,000 tons of cargo, reflecting a 6% increase compared to the previous year. However, there was a slight decline in volumes compared to November as the festive season approached. The company recorded growth in exports, imports, and transshipments, with particularly strong demand for perishable goods and specialized freight.
According to Cathay, the product „Cathay Fresh“ performed well, supported by air and land transport of seasonal products from America to the Greater Bay Area, as well as perishable goods from Oceania to Hong Kong. Additionally, the „Cathay Expert“ solution benefited from machinery deliveries within Northeast Asia.
Outlook for the Coming Months
Cathay Cargo expects demand to be somewhat weaker at the beginning of January before improving again ahead of the peak of the Chinese New Year. Hong Kong will continue to solidify its position as a leading air freight hub in the region.
