Jan 29, 2026 at 9:46 AMAAL Shipping recently transported 192 units of a lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) from Taicang, China, to Newcastle, Australia. This delivery is part of a larger project that includes a total of 720 units and supports one of the most significant grid connection battery development projects in Australia, according to AAL Shipping.
The individual BESS units measure 3.1 m in length, 2.66 m in height, and 2.06 m in width, with each unit weighing 14 t. The transport was carried out on the heavy-lift vessel „AAL Brisbane,“ which has a capacity of 31,000 t. The BESS cargo was stowed on the 3,000 m² main deck of the ship, with all safety regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the transport of dangerous goods being adhered to, the company states. „During loading, it was crucial that the stowage and securing plan was executed with precision by our crew and the Cargo Superintendent (CSI),“ said Jack Zhou, the Managing Director of AAL and Chief Representative of China.
