25,000 solar panels for Burundi

Bolloré Logistics Portugal has transported more than 25,000 solar panels for the construction of a 7.5 megawatts (MW) renewable energy power plant in Burundi. The operation took place in several stages over a period of four months.

A total of 150 teu containers were shipped by sea from several ports in Asia and Europe to Dar es Salaam and were then carried by road via a 1,400 km corridor connecting the Tanzanian coast to the Mubuga site, which is located 100 km from the capital Bujumbura, in the Gitega province in eastern Burundi.

Headed up by multinational Gigawatt Global, this project won the "Project of the Year 2020" award bestowed by EEP Africa, the energy and environment partnership trust fund in Africa. The power plant will increase the country’s electricity production by around 15%. (sh)
