300 wild animals safety relocated by rail


Etihad Rail has signed a deal to operate annually 500 trains for quarrying company Stevin Rock. Under the agreement, the UAE national railway will transport an estimated 3.5 million t of construction material from Stevin Rock’s Al Ghail quarry to Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

 

Recently, Etihad Rail also moved over 300 wild animals, including 242 Middle Eastern short-fingered geckos, 24 Baluch rock gecko, five saw-faced vipers, and others from Misanad Nature Reserve to other suitable and protected habitats.

 

The relocation was completed in line with leading international best practice, the carrier said. Furthermore, Etihad Rail and the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) agreed to exchange services, training and knowledge and facilitate the leasing of locomotives. (ben)
