A chilling cargo case in Chile

It may sound like a Halloween prank, but it’s all too real: Around 30 human legs, shipped from the US for medical training, have been stranded for over a year in a refrigerated warehouse at the airport of Santiago de Chile (SCL). The shipment, valued at USD 80,000, is caught in a legal limbo as health authorities dispute its import licence.

The Centro de Entrenamiento Médico Quirúrgico (CEMQ), which ordered the shipment, says the limbs were ethically sourced and meant solely for surgical education. "Without such imports, medical training and patient safety in Chile are at risk," the foundation warned, urging the government to modernise its outdated rules. For now, the frozen cargo remains under guard – a chilling reminder that even in logistics, some deliveries are truly spine-tingling. (ah)
