Abrupt leadership change at SC Ports

Barbara Melvin has resigned as president and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority after three years in the role, with the change taking effect immediately. Having joined SC Ports in 1998, she played a leading role in major infrastructure projects, including the Charleston Harbor Deepening and the reopening of Leatherman Terminal. Board chairman Bill Stern thanked her for her long service.

Chief financial officer Phillip Padgett has been appointed interim CEO without a transition period. Padgett, who joined in 2016, oversees finance, risk management and real estate, and said SC Ports remains committed to reliable and efficient services during the leadership change. The authority operates marine terminals in Charleston and two inland rail ports, serving as the 8th largest US container port. (ah)
