Air cargo charters help US shippers navigate tariff turbulence

The ongoing US tariff dispute is fuelling volatility for supply chain managers. With deadlines shifting and higher US-China tariffs postponed until November, many firms are turning to air charters to move goods before levies apply.

Jack Burt, SVP cargo at Chapman Freeborn USA, explained that while tariffs depress overall trade volumes, demand for expedited air cargo roseby  5% in July. Charters provide flexibility for shippers facing sudden policy changes, particularly for high-value goods such as servers, electronics and industrial machinery. According to Burt, capacity has so far been sufficient thanks to weaker global trade, but hotspots like Southeast Asia remain tight.

As uncertainty continues, air cargo brokers with global networks and rapid-response services are expected to play a key role in keeping essential shipments on schedule. (ah)
