Airlines fly to the aid of lovers

Today (Valentine’s Day), lovers can express their feelings with fresh flowers – thanks to the airlines that have flown tons of the perishable blooms over the last few days.

Emirates Skycargo and Lufthansa Cargo each transported 900 t of roses. The German carrier flew around 10 million thorny flowers from Quito, Bogota and Nairobi to Frankfurt as part of its "Fresh/td" service.

Emirates Skycargo added nine extra dedicated freighter flights to its daily scheduled cargo-only service to Nairobi, four weekly freighters to Quito, and operated its first freighter flight carrying flowers from Nairobi directly to Sydney and from Quito directly to Los Angeles CA.

Latam Cargo operated over 140 B767-300F flights full of flowers from South America between 14 January and 8 February, carrying more than 9,000 t of flowers, some 4,180 t stemmed from Colombia and 4,920 t from Ecuador. (ah)
