Amazon adds facilities in Connecticut and New York
enter Amazon’s expansion is continuing apace: the company has just decided to spend USD 255 million on the creation of a new, nearly 8,000 sqm fulfilment centre in North Haven CT (USA). The site, formerly utilized by Pratt & Whitney, has been vacant for more than 15 years.
Furthermore, Amazon plans to establish a new distribution centre (DC) in a former supermarket warehouse in Lancaster NY. The around 5,000 sqm platform will be located in a building previously occupied by the Dutch supermarket company Ahold USA.
The facility currently has 71 bays and loading docks, 80 parking spaces for trucks and 370 for cars. The DC will be the second in New York state, after the Prime Now hub in Manhattan. The Lancaster DC’s main purpose will be package sorting to speed up delivery times in the respective region. (cd)
