AN-12 cargo plane crash in the Ukraine


The aviation safety network reports that early last Friday, 4 October 2019, Ukraine Air Alliance flight 4050, an Antonov AN-12, crashed on approach to Lviv-Danylo Halytskyi International Airport (LWO), Ukraine. The aircraft departed Vigo Airport (VGO), Spain, in the evening of 3 October, on a flight to Lviv.

 

There were eight people on board: seven crew members and one person accompanying the cargo. When the aircraft was about 30 km south of Lviv, fog was at the airport with a visibility of 800 m, and a vertical visibility of 200 feet.

 

One hour after losing contact, the aircraft was found to have crashed in shrubs about 1 km short of the threshold of runway 31. As a result of the crash, five people were killed and three sustained serious injuries, according to the state emergency service of Ukraine. (ah)
