Argentina - the trade chain link across the Americas
Argentina has acceded to the TIR Convention, the global customs transit system for moving goods. While both Chile and Uruguay are signatories, Argentina’s decision to adopt TIR puts the country ever closer to improving cross-border connectivity, fostering regional integration and boosting global trade opportunities.
The implementation of TIR will generate economic gains and cut border waiting times in the region by as much as 50% as highlighted in the Organization of American States’ study.
Umberto de Pretto, secretary general of the IRU, pointed out: “This is a critical milestone for unleashing transport and trade potential in the Americas and beyond." (ben)
