Australia gets first fully automatic intermodal terminal
Kalmar and Navis, part of the Cargotec group, have won a contract to supply a state-of-the-art, fully automated intermodal terminal solution for Qube's Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) in southwestern Sydney (Australia).
The EUR 80 million order includes Kalmar's automated train handling, automated yard crane and automated horizontal transport equipment and the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS).
Manual operations at the terminal are due to commence in Q1/2019, and they will be gradually extended with the complete setup estimated to be operational in 2022.
The MLP development, with a rail link to Port Botany and the national rail network, will be the country's largest intermodal freight precinct when fully developed. (ben)
