Autonomous runway sweeping, only in Norway

Avinor, the wholly-owned state limited company which is responsible for 44 state-owned airports in Norway, is stepping into the future of winter operations and committing itself fully to autonomous runway sweepers.

It has signed a framework contract for a period of eight years with Norwegian company Øveraasen. As a subcontractor, the technology company Yeti Move, based in Kongsberg, will provide the autonomous solutions.

The value of the contract which includes anticipated options, as well as ongoing maintenance is estimated at around EUR 40 million.

Several autonomous vehicles are scheduled for deployment in Oslo during next winter. The machines with higher capacity and greater clearing range will make it possible to reduce the number of snow ploughs in operation, thus benefitting the environment.
