BMV rolls out parking data service
Germany has launched the pilot phase of its truck-parking information service (Sid), providing real-time occupancy data for lorry-parking areas along motorways.
The system, developed by BMV, the federal ministry for digital and transport matters, the federal office for logistics and mobility and Toll Collect, uses truck toll-system data, aiming to increase transparency and safety.
It currently covers over half of Germany’s 1,900 motorway public rest areas, with full integration expected by the end of 2025. From 2026, private truck stops will gradually be added, according to Mark Erichsen, chairman of the management board of Toll Collect. (js)
