Broad-gauge network fully electrified


Indian Railways is working in mission mode to become the largest green railway in the world and is moving towards becoming a net-zero carbon emitter before 2030.

 

Its affiliate, Central Railways, has achieved 100% railway electrification on all of its 3,825 km of broad-gauge routes. The fully electrified line allows heavier freight trains and will help reduce the carbon footprint by 52 million t every year.

 

Central Railways operates in central India and connects most Indian cities and other locations with the major cities in its jurisdiction, including Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Nasik, Solapur and Kolhapur. (ben)
