Bud Spencer's airline throwing out passengers

Mistral Air, a subsidiary of the Italian post office, is withdrawing from all passenger activities tomorrow 30 June. The airline was founded in 1981 inter alia by Carlo Pedersoli, aka Bud Spencer (1929–2016). It originally operated as a passenger airline and only gradually expanded into airmail activities; now it is set to become purely an airfreight service provider.

The change of focus was brought about by the company not succeeding in winning tenders for routes operated on the basis of commonweal obligations (PSO). These routes from Trapani and Catania to the islands of Lampedusa and Pantelleria are supported by the state. The government order has been awarded DAT Danish Air Transport, with effect from 1 July.
