Cessation of Covid-19 subsidies leads to loss

Swiss railfreight operator SBB Cargo closed the year 2022 with a loss of CHF 187.4 million, having generated a profit of CHF 1.1 million in 2021. The reason for this downturn is attributed to the cessation of the Covid-19 subsidies which the company had previously received from the federal government. Freight transport performance totalled 16,509 million ntkm last year.

SBB Cargo International also posted a loss of CHF 0.3 million in 2022, down from a CHF 19.5 million profit in 2021. The negative result was due to, among other things, construction sites and disruptions in Germany as well as higher electricity costs, the group said. (ben)
