China-Laos railway rail-welding yard inaugurated
The China Railway No 2 Engineering Group (CREC-2) has welded the first 500 m long rail for the China-Laos railway project in the Lao capital Vientiane. The rail is also the first long railway rail in the history of Lao transportation, of south-eastern Asian transportation and is also the longest one in Asia so far, except in China, according to the Chinese government.
The success of the welding also paved the way for laying a solid foundation for the China-Laos railway project. The CREC-2 rail-welding yard is to weld all the rails, combining each of the twenty 25 m long rail sections into one 500 m long rail, for the 414,332 km China-Laos railway which is scheduled to open to traffic in December 2021.
