CMA CGM: cross-Channel plans

Marseilles (France)-based CMA CGM Group is investing EUR 25 million in Brittany Ferries. This includes EUR 10 million in quasi-equity. The French shipping group will use available cargo space on board of Brittany Ferries’ services to UK, Ireland and the Iberian Peninsula and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the post-Brexit trade market.

A representative of the CMA CGM Group will take a seat in Brittany Ferries’ supervisory board. Both companies hope to introduce new roro services and promote the development of cross-Channel shipping.

Additionally, they are looking to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power their ships and achieve greener shipping and logistics solutions. Two new LNG-powered ships are due to join Brittany Ferries’ fleet in 2022 and in 2023. (cd)
