DHL opens FRA warehouse

DHL Global Forwarding has started operations at its new airfreight warehouse in 'CargoCity South' at Frankfurt airport. Built by Fraport, the 24,500 sqm facility consolidates DHL’s operations, which were previously spread over three locations, and offers annual handling capacity of up to 300,000 t of airfreight.

The site includes 54 truck gates, parking for 25 trucks and 185 vehicles, and 3,000 sqm of office space. A rooftop photovoltaic system with peak output of 2 MW is under construction, with the energy to be fed into the airport grid. ESG verification and DGNB gold certification are being sought.

Fraport sees the warehouse as a milestone in its 'CargoHub Masterplan', which targets a 50% rise in cargo volumes to around 3 million t annually through space optimisation, new developments and process digitisation. (ah)
