DHL Scania test completed

DHL Group and Scania have completed 100 days of tests of a new 'extended range electric vehicle' (Erev), an electric truck with a built-in fuel-powered generator for battery recharging backup. Tested on a 250 km route between Berlin and Hamburg, the Erev drove 91.9% of the time using grid-charged electricity, emitting over 90% less CO₂e than a conventional diesel truck as DHL has reported. The backup generator accounted for 8.1% of the truck's energy use.

DHL CEO Tobias Meyer urged policymakers to recognise bridging technologies like the Erev to enable faster market adoption. "We shouldn't be forced to wait," said Meyer. (js)
