Direct ASL Airlines link from Paris to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon
The French overseas collectivity (formerly a département d'outre-mer) of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, off the Canadian coast, is linked directly to Paris CDG airport this summer. The weekly Boeing B737-700 flights, the result of a deal between Air Saint-Pierre and ASL Airlines France, will be operated between 2 July and 21 August.
Up until now, all trans-Atlantic services to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon had to be routed via the Canadian mainland, with a stopover in Halifax adding twice 600 km to the route. France wants to improve links to the islands (population approximately 6,000) and is set to subsidise these activities with more than EUR 15 million over the next five years. (ah)
