Direct link between Moscow and Taiwan
On 8 November, Alexander Lukashevich, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the Moscow-Taipei and Taipei-Moscow coordination commissions on economic and cultural cooperation agreed to establish a direct air link. Air travel between Moscow and Taipei will be ensured by non-governmental private joint stock airlines Transaero (Russia) and China Airlines (Taiwan).
The airplanes operated on the route between Russia and Taiwan will not carry any official symbols, flags or coats of arms as Russia considers the island of Taiwan an integral part of China, and the government of the People’s Republic of China – the only legal government representing the whole of China. The two commissions mentioned above were established for aiding the development of unofficial links in the economic and cultural area.
