DP World extends UK carbon inset scheme

DP World has extended its pioneering 'UK Carbon Inset Programme' to the end of 2025, after over 150,000 import containers were registered in the first four months. The initiative, launched in January, rewards cargo owners with 50kg CO₂e credits per container handled at DP World’s Southampton (pictured) and London Gateway terminals.

Unlike offsets, the scheme focuses on cutting Scope 3 emissions directly within the supply chain. The credits are generated via Unifeeder’s use of low-carbon fuels and verified quarterly. DP World has already issued the first certificates and plans to scale the programme further. The move aligns with its broader sustainability targets, including a 42% cut in emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. Fyffes UK is among the early adopters. (ah)
