Emirates launches daily A380 service to Switzerland
Emirates celebrated the launch of its scheduled A380 service to Zurich (Switzerland) this week, bringing the number of destinations it serves with its A380s to 25. Since 1 January 2014, the Dubai (UAE)-based carrier operates its flagship aircraft on one of its two daily flights to Zurich, which was previously operated with a Boeing B777.
What was celebrated as an upgrade for the passenger operation, means however less freight capacity: the B777-300ER can carry up to 23 t of freight in its bellyhold while the A380-800 is only capable of carrying 8 t of cargo. And even the B777-200LR, which serves Geneva in the western part of Switzerland on a daily basis, has a higher freight capacity (17 t) than the biggest passenger aircraft.
