Esbjerg initiates offshore collaboration

The Port of Esbjerg has initiated a partnership between five key ports for offshore wind energy in Northern Europe. Besides the Port of Esbjerg (Denmark), the alliance, which was signed in Hamburg recently, includes Niedersachsen Ports/Cuxhaven (Germany), Port Oostende (Belgium), Groningen Seaports/Eemshaven (Netherlands) and Nantes-Saint Nazaire Port (France). The purpose of the partnership is to exchange knowledge and ensure an efficient use of port capacities.

Germany alone has set itself the target of expanding offshore wind energy by 30 GW by 2030, 40 GW by 2035 and 70 GW by 2050.

In the Esbjerg declaration, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands outlined a joint target of at least 65 GW of offshore wind energy to be fed into the grid by 2030. (sh)
