Etihad Cargo partners with LODD Autonomous

Etihad Cargo has entered a strategic partnership with LODD Autonomous to trial the use of the next-generation 'Hili' hybrid VTOL unmanned aircraft in the UAE, marking a significant step towards redefining air freight logistics. The "Hili" drone, capable of carrying up to 250 kg over distances exceeding 700 km, will be tested for point-to-point deliveries between logistics hubs without the need for runways or traditional airport infrastructure. The trials aim to assess the aircraft’s efficiency, safety and integration into ground operations, with the potential to dramatically shorten delivery times and enhance operational flexibility while supporting Etihad Cargo’s sustainability goals.

The collaboration reflects a shared ambition to modernise freight movements and strengthen connectivity across the UAE, particularly for high-value, time-sensitive shipments such as pharmaceuticals and industrial components. By creating a faster and more direct middle-mile logistics network, the project could unlock new commercial opportunities and improve supply-chain resilience. Etihad Cargo will also evaluate the viability of incorporating the ‘Hili’ into its future fleet, underscoring its commitment to innovation and low-emission transport solutions in partnership with Abu Dhabi-based LODD Autonomous.
