eTrailer wins European transport prize
Krone and Trailer Dynamics have been awarded the European Transport Prize for Sustainability 2026 in the trailers and superstructures category for their jointly developed eTrailer, an innovative electric semi-trailer designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The eTrailer enables a remarkable 40% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, enhancing the sustainability of road freight transport in Europe.
The eTrailer features an independent electric drive system that assists the tractor unit with traction, whether it operates on diesel or electricity. This allows for fully electric ranges exceeding 600 km when paired with a battery-electric tractor unit. Currently, 20 approved eTrailer units are in practical use, demonstrating their effectiveness and potential for eco-friendly logistics. Dr Stefan Binnewies of Krone highlighted that this award reinforces the vision of combining sustainability with economic efficiency in the transport sector. The system incorporates advanced energy management, a modular battery system and predictive control technology to optimise performance, ensuring lower operating costs and improved fleet planning for transport companies.
