EUR 18 million for Vlora motorway bypass
The European Investment Bank (EIB)'s vice-president, Dario Scannapieco, signed a EUR 18 million loan for the construction of a motorway bypass for the city of Vlora in Albania, during his official visit to Tirana. The Albanian government was represented by finance minister, Shkëlqim Cani, in the presence of prime minister Edi Rama.
The loan will used to part finance the construction of a 29 km motorway bypassing Vlora on Albania's southern coast of the country. The scheme reflects the government’s priority to develop a sustainable transport system in the area. The EIB loan represents 35% of the total cost of the project; the balance will be provided by the European Commission under the instrument for pre-accession countries (IPA), the EBRD, and the Albanian government.
