Fedex expanding at Incheon airport
The express transport provider, Fedex Express, a subsidiary of US-based Fedex Corp, has signed an agreement with Incheon International Airport Corporation to confirm the construction of a new Fedex cargo terminal at Incheon international airport (ICN).
The facility will cover 23,425 sqm, more than twice the size of the current terminal. Fedex plans to deploy an advanced automated cargo sorting system at the new terminal, to meet the fast-growing demands of express cargo. Once completed, in 2021, the new facility will have the capacity to sort up to 18,000 packages per hour.
Establishing a new cargo facility at ICN is a strategic move for Fedex. The airport saw the volume of international shipments rise by 10.4% between 2012 and 2016, taking the total to just over 2.7 million t. (ah)
