Fewer trucks between Lausanne and Geneva

The Swiss federal railways (SBB) have opened the new passing rail track between Coppet and Founex on the Geneva – Lausanne route. Now the railways can expand passenger traffic without reducing railfreight capacities.

On the new 750 m and CHF 73 million track, the faster passenger trains can overtake freight trains so that two freight trains per hour and direction can continue to operate on this line.

From 2010 to 2019, the number of freight trains on the Lausanne – Geneva route rose by more than 30%. The freight trains carried 2,331,029 t of goods and took 740 trucks off the roads every working day. (ben)
