Finnair seeks even more freight in Asia

Last month, Finnair's available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres (162.4 million) increased by 13.7% year-on-year. Revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres (99.8 million) increased by 11.4%. During the first nine months of the year, Finnair carried 25,059 t inside Europe (+66.8% y-o-y), 10,077 t on the North American trade line (+30.9%) and 92,247.5 Asia tonnes (+10.4%).

Global uncertainty in world trade continued to weigh on the global air freight market in September, and market softness and yield pressures were especially visible in Finnair’s cargo markets in Asia.

Nevertheless, the carrier is planning to add capacity to Japan with daily flights to Tokyo Haneda Airport (photo) as of the start of the 2020 summer season. The new frequencies will be in addition to Finnair’s daily flights to Tokyo Narita.  (ah)
