First Alibaba train completes China-Belgium journey
The first Alibaba freight train from eastern China’s Yiwu arrived in Liege, Belgium, after a 17-day journey. The train was loaded with 82 containers and passed through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany on its journey to Belgium.
It represents a new freight connection and is also the first rail line dedicated to cross-border e-commerce between China, Central Asia and Europe, according to the operator YXE International Container Train.
It follows the launch of the electronic World Trade Platform Belgium initiative by Alibaba and the Belgian Government in December 2018. The Yiwu-Liège train line is initially scheduled to run once a week. (ben)
