Four for LNG in Japan
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Chubu Electric Power, Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha are to launch the LNG bunkering business in Japan. LNG is expected to become an important alternative to heavy fuel oil due to its low emission rate of air polluting substances and greenhouse gases.
Use of LNG as a fuel will enable ships to meet the increasingly stringent international emission regulations. The four companies have been holding discussions on the commercialisation of LNG bunkering in the Chubu region of Japan since January 2018.
The partners have now established two joint ventures to run LNG bunkering operations. Each of the four companies will now utilize their expertise and strengths to promote the new “Ship-to-Ship Bunkering3” business. (kd)
