Gefco and ONCF conveying new cars for Peugeot

Gefco has delivered the first two rail car transporters to the newly opened PSA plant in Kenitra (Morocco). Another 45 such units will be handed over by the end of 2019. The French car maker, Peugeot, uses the car transporters to convey its new cars by rail from its Kenitra factory to the European market via Tangier (Morocco) and Saint-Nazair (France).

Rail transport on the African side of the Med is handled by Morocco’s state-run railway ONCF. Gefco shoulders responsibility for shipping the new vehicles from Tangier to France, and for the onward overland transport.

Peugeot aims to produce 200,000 cars a year at its new Kenitra plant from 2020. (ben)
