Germany’s railways haul 274 million t of goods
A total of 274.1 million t of goods were transported on the German rail network in the first nine months of the current year. The country’s federal statistical office (Destatis) reported that the overall railfreight tonnage sank by 1% compared to the same period in 2012.
Whilst the volume of inbound crossborder railfreight rose by 4.8%, all other transport routes saw volumes dwindle. There were marked declines in railfreight exports (- 3.5%) and transit traffic (- 2.9%). Domestic traffic also shrank by 1.8 %. (ben)
